About Joseph Pilates, Founder

Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880.  He had a lifelong interest in body conditioning.  As a frail child he was known to have rickets and became dedicated to becoming stronger.  He later grew to become a skier, diver, gymnast and boxer. Not a dancer, as some believe.

While interned in England during World War I due to his German citizenship, Joseph became a nurse. This is where his ideas came for the apparatus to rehabilitate the immobilized soldiers returning from the war using springs with hospital beds.  He then brought this equipment to America, opening his studio in 1926.

Pilates now is practiced in the best Gyms across the world by altheles, dancers and the general population.

Pilates is for everyone!
